Sam brings a deep connection to the land as a farmer and food producer, passionate about provenance and sustainability. Ro is a cheesemaker and distiller, known for crafting award-winning products rooted in tradition and innovation. Banjo, an interior designer with a flair for atmosphere, has reimagined the space with a modern rustic feel—honest materials, thoughtful detail, and plenty of charm.
Together, they’ve created a space where good food, good company, and the natural beauty of the west coast come together. Whether you arrive by boat, bike, or boot, you’ll find a warm welcome waiting at The Boathouse.
The community owned Isle of Ulva is located off the west coast of Mull and is approximately 2000 ha. (12 km long by 4km wide). The island has been inhabited for over 7000 years. Once home to 600 souls, today it is home to just 16.
Ulva has close historical links with the Clan Macquarie, which laid claim to its ownership for centuries. As in other areas, Ulva was impacted by the Highland Clearances of the 18th and 19th centuries, with many residents being removed from the island during that period.
The stunning coast of Ulva is unrivaled. With its geology that has created hidden coves, beaches and lagoons. A breath-taking beauty that is home to seals, dolphins, whales and otters and long with a myriad of species of sea birds. All to be explored by foot, kayak or boat.
Ulva is home to nesting pairs of White-tailed Sea Eagles, which can be commonly seen on the wing along the coast of Ulva. Also home to Golden Eagles, Hen Harriers, otters, seals and the rare Scotch Burnet Moth that is only found on a few west coast islands in Scotland.
